The first stage of the programme is a common core designed to give every student a solid, multidisciplinary base before they take on the specialisations.
This foundation covers mathematical tools (analysis and algebra), the fundamentals of statistics (descriptive statistics and probability), the basics of economics (general economics and macroeconomics), an introduction to computing (office software, ICT and statistical packages), together with personal development modules (English, communication skills and career planning).
The aim is to establish a shared body of knowledge and a command of the prerequisites needed to succeed in either the Statistics, Economics and Applications (SEA) track or the Data Science and Business Intelligence (SDID) track.
After the common core
At the end of the common core, the Institute assigns each student to one of the two specialisation tracks — SEA or SDID. The decision takes into account academic results during the common core, the preferences expressed by students and the number of places available in each track.
